Install SharePoint 2010 Step 1 - Setup Farm

Here is my latest PowerShell command for setting up SharePoint 2010.  Please not that you must edit the variables in the beginning of the file to match your environment.

When this command is complete you will be able to browse to the central administration web site and begin configuring your farm.

Note: the popup credential prompt is for the Farm Account.  It should be entered as domain\account.

Run each command one at a time.  Trying to run all of these in one PowerShell command can be risky.
a trick to running commands one at a time is to edit the script and use mulit-line comments to comment out the other lines.  Multi-line comments in PowerShell are:

<#
This will all
be commented out and not run.

# These commands will configure a blank SharePoint 2010 farm with custom database names.  (These databases must be created in advance)

<#
These variables must be changed to suit your setup (use your own Passphrase).
Create these 2 databases on the SQL Server first and give your s…

Simple Navigation Bar

This is helpful if you need a simple navigation bar across a page.  Note: I left the header for the page in there but can be removed as the outer div and span.

      <div class="HeadingCell">
       <span class="HeadingText">Release Home</span><br/>
       <div id="navbar">
        <ul>
         <li><a href="home.aspx">Home</a></li>
         <li><a href="wb.aspx">Workbooks</a></li>
         <li><a href="ccb.aspx">CCB</a></li>
         <li><a href="dev.aspx">Development</a></li>
        </ul>
       </div>
      </div>
CSS:

.HeadingCell {width:100%; text-align:center; display:block; background-color:black;}
.HeadingText {padding-bottom:10px; white-space:nowrap; font-family:Calibri; font-size:34px; font-weight:bold; letter-spacing:2px; color:#CCC;}

Bing Maps for SharePoint

Want a solution that can deploy a Bing Maps webpart, install a custom field for Lat/Long with a great map picker control, and display any lists that have content in the custom coordinate field on the map?
Here is the CodePlex project:
http://smil.codeplex.com/

Here is where you must go to get a Bing Maps Key:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff428642.aspx
I created a developer key and had to establish a domain name with it, but using the correct domain didn't matter for the solution to work.  This key is referenced in the web.config and twice in the control template.

Note:
I would edit the text in the control template.  I used an explanation like this:

    <div id="txtE">
        Hover over grey stripe to utilize menu or navigate in map window below to select location.
    </div>

This text is displayed on the edit form above the user control for picking a location on the map.

CSS Class Definitions for Windows SharePoint Services

The classes for cascading style sheets that determine the styles and formatting applied to pages in Windows SharePoint Services are defined in Core.css, which is located in the following directory of each front-end Web server:
Local_Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033\STYLES
The following table provides information about the classes that are defined in Core.css.
